You know the weird in-between time after Christmas and before New Year? Well, it’s called Twixmas. Derived from the word ‘betwixt’, meaning ‘between’, Twixmas is often an uneventful blur, filled with leftovers, binge watching TV, and not much else. Well, we’ve put together a guide on how to make Twixmas 2021 less ‘meh’ and more ‘hell yeah!’ There are still loads of opportunities to stretch out the magic of the season that little bit longer (the Christmas decorations are still up on the tree after all).
Harry Potter forbidden forestHarry Potter forbidden forestWatching Harry Potter at Christmas is practically an age-old tradition now (it has been 20 years after all). During Twixmas, experience memorable moments from the movies yourself. Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience brings creatures from both the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises to Arley Hall in Cheshire (around an hour’s drive from Manchester). Guests will be able to make their way through the magical winter trail, uncovering Hippogriffs, Centaurs, and even Aragog and his family, along the way. If that wasn’t all, there’s also a fantastic village at the end of the trail, where you can fill up on food and drink, too. Tickets are available here.
Talented musicians will show a little Respect to the kings and queens of soul at Candlelight Soul Classics on Tuesday, December 28. A mix of piano, saxophone, guitar, bass, drums and vocals will come together by candlelight at Manchester Cathedral for an upbeat evening of soul classic covers. From The Supremes to Marvin Gaye, Let’s Get It On our calendars for Twixmas… Grab your tickets here.
A day later, on Wednesday, December 29, pianist Tim Abel and violinist Matthew Glossop will take to the stage at Manchester Cathedral to perform Coldplay’s hit songs as you’ve never heard them before – as soothing classical renditions. Expect to be transported through years of iconic band’s back catalogue, and hear songs such as Fix You, Paradise, The Scientist, and many many more by the glow of soft candlelight. We’ve been waiting for Something Just Like This. Tickets are available now.

Christmas City will switch things up after December 25, offering all the cosiness of a fun-filled, festive drive-in cinema, like a candy cane forest, drive-in festive mail room, and karaoke area, but without the Christmas movies. Instead, you can enjoy an equally wholesome schedule from the comfort of your own car, including The Greatest Showman, Dirty Dancing, Indiana Jones, and Armageddon (okay, it gets less wholesome as you go down that list…) Tickets for December 28–31 are available here.
For a funfair experience away from the outdoor elements, head to Winter Funland – the UK’s largest indoor fairground. Open on December 26 and 28–31 this Twixmas (and then into the new year), Bowler’s Exhibition Centre will be abound with helter skelters, dodgems, and circus acts. And what would a fun fair be without the food? Candy floss, hot dogs… you name it, you’ll find it here. Book your session here.

Panto season may be almost done and dusted for another year, but there’s still time for one more “he’s behind you!” before the outrageous outfits are packed away until 2022. The raucous Horrible Histories Car Park Panto is coming to AJ Bell Stadium on December 2930 for a comedic adventure, featuring Oliver Cromwell, Charles Dickens, King Henry VIII and St. Nicholas. What’s more, you needn’t worry about battling through chaotic panto crowds and searching sticky-floored theatres for a seat; you’ll be comfortably sat in your car for the show. So, grab a ticket and pack those Christmas Day leftovers for snacking.
axe throwingaxe throwingWhether there’s some pent up anger after a Christmas Brussels sprouts dispute, or you just like throwing stuff, go head to head with your siblings, parents, partner, or friends with a spot of axe throwing at Whistle Punks. Demonstrate your absolute bad-assery, as you hurl axes to score points on a target – after some training from the professionals. Losers have to buy the drinks at the onsite bar after, right? Book your spot here.
Bottomless brunch is a winner year round, and Twixmas is no exception. Doing things a little differently than the traditional sit-down session, on Boxing Day (December 26), Bierkeller will host a five-hour, garage-themed party with live DJs, street food available for purchase, and one hour of bottomless rum punch. So, Re-Rewind to the late 90s/early 00s, get dancing, and get your ticket now.
