4th celebration on Friday – Purcell Register

You can get a jump start to the July 4th weekend with a trip to the Purcell City Lake Friday .
The city’s observance will feature food, games and fireworks a full three days before the July 4 holiday.
Food trucks will be serving a variety of cuisine at Chandler Pavilion from 5 to 10 p.m.
There will be deluxe concoctions from Contrabandz Ice Cream Lab, traditional fair food from Carnival Eats & Treats and Oklahoma Kettle Corn.
Cool off with a stop by Mr. Yeti Snow Cones or go international with Vietnamese dishes at Monkey’s Food Truck.
Also available will be gourmet loaded tater tots from Some Like It Tot.
The latter was a contestant  from Season 13 of the “Great American Food Truck Race.”
With your appetite whetted,  it’s time for fun and games, also at the Chandler Pavilion.
The lineup of activities will include sand volleyball, beach swimming and fishing.
Yaya’s Inflatables will be selling wrist bands to keep the kids jumping all night. Or at least until the fireworks show.
Heck Graphics will be set up to paint some faces.
Or take a stroll along the Lake Trail in the dim light of a waxing crescent moon.
There will even be a car show in the parking lot of the Multipurpose Center.
Registration will open at 6 p.m. with the entry fee is $20 per vehicle. The show and judging will start at 7 p.m.
In addition to motor vehicles you don’t see every day, the car show will feature two prize giveaways.
Tickets for the 50-50 cash prize will be $1 each.
After the prize is paid, the remaining cash and car show registration fees will be donated to Operation Christmas, proving Christmas really does start in July.
The prize stakes go up a bit for a Ruger 10/22 rifle. Those tickets are $10 each.
Another attraction at 7 p.m. will be a country and western dance to the music of The Ole Troubadours at the Multipurpose Center.
Whatever you do, don’t leave the lake before the fireworks show at 9:45 p.m.
Look to the northeast edge of the lake where the dam meets the cemetery and enjoy the show which is co-sponsored by the City of Purcell and Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce with additional financial support from residents.
At 10 p.m., the city’s Parks & Recreation Department will host a new event this year – a 3 on 3 basketball tournament.
The competition will be open to 8 teams that will be selected on a first-come basis.
