Two of life’s biggest luxuries are a blowdry and a cocktail, so finding somewhere to combine the two is sheer perfection, right? Soho’s uber trendy SALON64 is a salon with a difference. Head inside, take a seat, and the table in front of you lifts up to reveal a mirror, phone charger and a space to pop your cocktail or cappuccino. Perfection!
Turning heads, (literally) the salon has also just announced CLUB64; an achingly hip private members club that pops up when the salon shuts. The decadent interior and fire pit is the epitome of luxury, and so are the fabulous drinks on offer. A rare gem in the heart of Soho.

In need of a blow dry? Head down to Saco Hair, a slick modern salon for the ultimate pre-night out treat. We visited the Charlotte Place salon for a post-work refresh and much-needed TLC. Arriving with limp, frizzy locks, we emerged with glossy waves after just 50 minutes in the chair chatting away. Not typically being a fan of curly blow dries due to struggling with unruly locks, the finished result had just the right amount of bounce  – and was even complimented by a total stranger later that evening.
Saco Hair is a creative partnership between acclaimed stylists Richard Ashforth and Anthony Keast, who met during their successful 20 plus year careers at Sassoon Salon. If you’re looking for something natural to take you from desk to drinks, the talented team is poised to transform your barnet, from cuts and colour to keratin treatments, poker straight styles or beach waves. Prices vary depending on treatment type.

Located in the heart of Chelsea, Kahani is an exceptional restaurant that serves modern Indian cuisine. The emphasis is on using the finest seasonal British ingredients and bringing them to life with Indian cooking techniques and spices – and the result is subliminal. A dining experience in the quaint underground restaurant, which boasts a magnificent fireplace and chic chandeliers, is a real treat.
Head chef Peter Joseph splits the menu into Kahani classic dishes, Kahani specials and Kahani ‘dawat’ delights. It’s one of the those places where you really can’t go wrong with what you order, but we highly recommend the tasty, tandoori Somerset lamb chops and the trio of chicken tikka for starters. Aubergine lovers will be amazed by the elaborate presentation of the roasted, spiced aubergine steak, while the Kahani chicken makhani, which is chargrilled chicken cooked in a rich tomato sauce with fenugreek leaves, is a must-order for mains. Make sure to order the garlic naan and more innovative gruyere naan to dunk into the sauce. Ten out of ten for the quality of food.

Sushi and champagne, has there ever been a better match? Japanese restaurant Miyako at the Andaz London Liverpool Street hotel has launched a new dining experience and it’s got date night written all over it. Available in the casual eatery, or in the more cosy and atmospheric Rake’s Parlour, the menu consists of a selection of nigiri, sashimi, maki and uramaki sushi.
We highly recommend the tasty tempura shrimp and avocado roll, as well as the crunchy spicy roll available in both tuna or salmon. The sashimi is another crowd-pleaser, particularly the yellowtail and the classic salmon. Guests can choose this menu when dining from 12 to 3pm and 5 to 10pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and of course, pair their food with a bottle of champagne. Among the luxury brands on offer are Bollinger, Louis Rodered and Gosset. Cheers to that!

Afternoon tea is always a delight, and even more so when the menu is steeped in history. At The Stafford London’s restaurant, The Game Bird, the indulgent afternoon tea takes you on a journey around neighbouring St James’s and its historic stores. Iconic shops are immortalised into sweet treats – a delicious chocolate and lime jelly ‘top hat’ represents hatmakers Lock & Co, while Henry Poole & Co tailor is reflected in an iced ‘tuxedo’ biscuit. The sandwiches are of great variety and include the classic H Forman & Son smoked salmon, the honey-roast Wiltshire ham and mustard, and the decadent truffled egg brioche bun. There’s also a selection of not two but three scones, including the more innovative cheddar scone served with soft cheese and chives – a pleasing savoury alternative to the traditional plain or raisin scones.
The menu is reasonably priced at £45 per person, or £60 if you choose to upgrade with a glass of Louis Roederer champagne, which comes in a highly recommended pink option. As for the teas, diners are spoilt for choice with the pages-long tea selection. The Stafford offers four bespoke signature blends which go beautifully with the food.
It’s easy to while away a few autumnal hours at the five-star hotel, indulging in afternoon tea by the fireplace, away from the hustle and bustle of central London. With its chic interiors, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent quality fare, you’re guaranteed to have a grand time.

Ganymede in Belgravia is one of those restaurants where you’ll be flitting between at least a couple of things when the server comes to take your order. But you really can’t go wrong with whatever you decide on. The newly opened dining room, which features plush booths and chic overhanging lamps, is a truly elegant place to enjoy an evening meal. And it’s always a good sign when a just-opened local restaurant is packed mid-week.
While the menu may be small, it shows off the best of British produce in an innovative and creative way, and the food really is exceptional. For starters, carnivores will love the rabbit, pork shoulder and pistachio terrine, while the roasted duck breast with pommes sarladaises, blackberries and pink peppercorns is another must-order for mains. The fillet of stonebass is also a real showstopper, the meaty white fish paired delicately with creamed polenta, saffron soffrito, leek heart and cavolo nero. Balancing flavours beautifully and having a mix of textures on one plate are just two things Ganymede do particularly well.
As for dessert, we recommend ordering one cheeseboard that features a selection of quality cheese from La Fromagerie and contrasting this with the rich chocolate cremeux tartlet served with vanilla ice cream and pistachio. You won’t be disappointed. The wine list is also extensive, while the cocktail menu, which may have been limited in choice, didn’t take away from how delicious they were.

Afternoon tea is always a good idea, especially when it’s got a special twist to it. At Sofitel London St James, the hotel has introduced its new autumn menu created by newly appointed pastry chef Jamie Warley. The focus is indeed on French cuisine, so, unusually for an afternoon tea, you’ll start with a serving of French onion soup. Instead of traditional finger sandwiches, your savoury course includes more exciting and innovative dishes like a mini croque monsieur, duck rillettes, and a celeriac, truffle and bacon quiche.
Purists will be glad to hear that scones (both plain and raisin and freshly baked) are still on the menu and served with clotted cream and jam. The stars of the show really are the sweet treats though and pastry chef Jamie’s expertise. The Parisienne pastries include an exquisite Earl Grey and coffee choux bun, a tarragon and blackberry macaron, and a passion fruit and sesame Mont Blanc.
The rose-filled setting of the Rose Lounge is a real delight and a relaxing place to while away the afternoon. There’s also a brilliant selection of tea from Camellia’s Tea House, and if you have a special celebration to toast, why not upgrade to a glass of champagne?

The colder weather may be drawing in, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a taste of the sunny Mediterranean. Tucked away in the corner of Mayfair next to Hyde Park, El Pirata has become a firm favourite for those wanting an authentic Spanish experience – and it’s not hard to see why.
Our new favourite place to indulge in the best of London’s Spanish cuisine scene, El Pirata’s tapas offering is as delicious as it is popular. Light bites include salty padron peppers, buttery squid and irresistible pan con tomate, while Iberican pork dishes, sweet glazed chicken wings and tempting Spanish cheeses provide the ultimate comfort food. Whether you’re passing by for a light snack, or you’re tempted by a mouthwatering Spanish feast – this Mayfair spot is not one to miss.

What better way to treat yourself guilt-free ahead of the festive season than a trip to Holy Carrot. The impossibly stylish restaurant in Knightsbridge offers an entire vegan-only menu – with dishes even a carnivore would salivate over. Be sure to go along hungry so you have room for some small plates to start. The Kentish purple potato croquettes, filled with avocados and homemade basil mayo, and the crispy lobster mushroom are incredibly moorish, while for mains, the sext tofu, glazed with aubergine, red pepper and peanut sauce, and the sticky and sweet orange cauliflower are incredibly divine. Wash it all down with a cocktail or two – The Fool and The Star are recommended, or some organic wine.
